Keratin Smoothing Treatment: August Service of the Month

Keratin Smoothing Treatment

Now until the end of August take 20% off the Keratin Smoothing Treatment. A keratin treatment is a chemical process to achieve soft and shiny hair that was otherwise frizzy or unmanageable. This month, we sat down with ViVo Stylist Rachel Day to talk all about Keratin.

What is the Keratin Smoothing Treatment?
Our hair is made up of approximately 95% of a protein called keratin. It is possible to lose keratin through environmental stressors, the sun’s rays, heat styling, and chemical services. When keratin is lost, it creates tiny holes in the hair that absorb humidity and create frizz. The Keratin Smoothing Treatment is a reparative service that coats the hair cuticle in a protective layer to combat humidity and tame excessive frizz. It fills in those tiny holes, creating a soft and healthy appearance with added shine.

Can you describe the process?
The process of this treatment is simple:

  1. Clarify the hair two to three times to remove any product buildup so the treatment will take more evenly.
  2. Apply the product using thin sections, focusing on the more problematic areas which are typically around the face and in the nape of the neck.
  3. Blow dry the product in and flat iron several times on each strand to let the product sink in; this is the step that seals the deal!

After the service is complete, the client must wait 48 hours before washing the hair for the treatment to fully cure. Within those 48 hours, it is important to not wear a ponytail or tuck their hair behind their ears. This leaves potential for a permanent bend or crease in the hair.

Who is the perfect candidate for this treatment?
The perfect candidate for the Keratin Smoothing Treatment is someone who suffers from untamable frizz or a coarse hair texture. It is important to note that this treatment will not relax curly hair, but it is possible for it to be tamed down. This can make the curls more manageable while styling because curly hair tends to be more dry and prone to frizz.

What products go well with a keratin treatment?
To maintain a healthy keratin, use a leave-in moisturizer and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. This will keep the hair feeling nice and soft throughout the duration of your keratin. Rachel’s favorite products for moisture are the Oribe Gold Lust shampoo and conditioner and the Oribe Supershine Light leave in moisturizer.

Be sure to book your Keratin Treatment today! The full keratin treatment will last three to five months, while the express version will last about six weeks.
